Meerkats

Meet our Meerkats!

We have one group of Meerkats in the Top Yard next to our Cape Porcupines! These are a mix of boys and girls, who were only born in 2025.

IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern.

Diet: Meerkats are carnivorous. Their diet mostly consists of insects, but they also eat small mammals, reptiles and even scorpions!

Habitat: Meerkats live in the grasslands and deserts of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.

Fun fact: The dark fur surrounding a meerkats eyes, helps to reflect the sunlight!
